Food for Friends

Food For Friends at Thanksgiving. Each year, we prepare meals for the homeless and serve them under the viaduct at First Avenue North and 26th Street. Thanksgiving Day- Thursday through Sunday.
 

What can my church donate to help this ministry?
Food For Friends non-perishables can go to the BBA office beginning Nov. 1.
Perishables go to the ministry site (1st Ave. N & 26th St.) after 1 p.m. on the day before Thanksgiving.

FOOD items:

  • bacon
  • grits (5 lb bags)
  • cooked biscuits and cornbread
  • homemade vegetable soup and chili (frozen in gallon ZipLoc® bags as it cools- health dept. rules)
  • saltines
  • jelly
  • jam
  • individual cereal boxes
  • bananas and oranges (no apples)
  • squeeze bottles of butter
  • sugar
  • 1 gal. ZipLoc® bags
  • 33 gal. lawn & leaf bags
  • hot chocolate canisters
  • coffee (16 oz)
  • lunch meat (sliced ham, turkey, chicken, roast beef)
  • sliced cheese
  • mayonaise
  • mustard
  • cookies
  • cakes
  • bottled water

HYGIENE KITS

Please place the following items in a gallon Zip-lock Bag:

  • Washcloth
  • Bar of Soap
  • Toothbrush
  • Travel Size Toothpaste
  • Dental Floss
  • Razor
  • Travel Size Shaving Cream
  • Small Shampoo
  • Small Conditioner
  • Comb or Small Brush
  • Deodorant
  • Poncho (Dollar stores have these)
  • Pen/Small Notepad

WINTER CLOTHING

All clothes clean, sized, labeled and on hangers
  • HUGS: Hats (toboggans), Underwear, Gloves, Socks
  • Sweat Shirts/Sweat Pants (XL to XXXXXL)
  • Blue Jeans/Overalls
  • Shirts
  • Sweaters
  • Jackets/Windbreakers  (Large Sizes)
  • Shoes (Large sizes)
  • Ponchos/Raincoats
  • Sleeping Bags
  • Blankets
  • Backpacks
  • (Heavy duty large garbage bags for carrying clothing. etc.)
How can my church volunteer?
Volunteers will be needed for three breakfast shifts on Thursday–Sunday. Lunch shifts are needed on Friday and Saturday. Groups of three or more need to elect a FFF Coordinator to register the group for orientation and to sign up for a ministry time slot. Orientations are generally held on the Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving (one session, available on two days). Check for training details.
