Discovery Clubs

Discovery Clubs of Alabama, a partner in ministry with Birmingham Baptist Association, working to carry the message of Christ into afterschool programs throughout our community.

The Birmingham mayor's office's division of youth services (DYS) honored Discovery Clubs of Alabama as its first "Programs That Work" award recipient of 2008.

Discovery Clubs of Alabama is an after-school program headed by John Glasser. The program takes a biblical approach to teaching youth about character development and morals. Staff and volunteers work closely with local houses of faith, school principals, and parents to make participation easy and accessible for students.

Through age-appropriate activities and exercises, program participants learn about positive options that may help them to make better choices when faced with tough decisions. One parent commented, "My child's character has improved.  She seems more excited about life." Another stated, "My child is now more outgoing and talks a lot about the Bible and how people should treat each other."
